If you’re travelling on a family holiday then it’s important to make sure that any destination you’re going to is right. Unlike places which are ideal for groups of friends or couples, you need to ensure that there will be enough entertainment for everyone to enjoy, whatever their ages. Family holidays can often be more expensive to cater for, and cheaper locations will definitely be of benefit. And if you’re thinking of going away this year then Algarve holidays are the perfect family retreat.

Located on the southern coastline of Portugal, the Algarve is synonymous with beautiful golden beaches and a bright sunny climate. The area’s climate is a major reason for its family attraction, with you not having to worry too much about what to do with the children’s should your entire holiday be a washout. With cloudless skies you’ll be able to enjoy beach days or long hours by the pool without having to think about alternative entertainment inside should it rain. In addition to its beautiful coastline, the Algarve also has stunning rural countryside to explore, and if you want a day away from the beach, then heading inland and discovering flora, fauna and historic attractions is a great way to do something a little different.

As the Algarve has become so popular with families there is a huge variety in the resorts that you can stay at. Most will offer a range of children’s entertainment, including activity sessions and entertainment which will allow you a short break to lie by the pool uninterrupted. Resorts also have a full range of services and facilities so that you can travel with youngsters of all ages, providing the assurance you need that you’ll be able to find changing areas for babies, catering for toddlers, and entertainment for older children. Albufeira and Carvoeiro are great modern resorts which have changed immensely since tourism to the Algarve really hit in the 1970’s. Meanwhile, other places like Monchique and Alta have remained very similar to past decades, allowing you to delve into Portugal’s traditional culture should you want to.

A huge plus for families is the Portugal, and especially the Algarve, can be affordable on any budget because it is one of the cheapest countries in Europe. There is a huge variety of accommodation options, so if you want a lavish five star hotel you can easily find it. On the other end of the scale, there are plenty of two and three star resorts which are perfectly acceptable and will help save the cash. Restaurants and bars certainly give value for money, and you’ll find that eating out is very cheap compared with many Western destinations. Meanwhile, it costs nothing to enjoy the beautiful scenery and beaches, whilst many of the major tourist attractions are very reasonably priced.

If you’re looking for a top destination to travel to this year with your family then the Algarve is ideal. With a great Mediterranean climate, a huge range of entertainment, and very well priced, it is the perfect place for family fun in the sun.
