Algarve Restaurants – Experiencing The Local Cuisine

The cuisine of the Algarve is reason enough to visit this southern region of Portugal. If  you are food lover, you are going to definitely want to check out the great Algarve restaurants. If you are on a self-catering Algarve villa holiday you might find yourself eating out more than you had planned once you get a taste for the local cuisine.

There are far more restaurants in the Algarve than can fit into this guide, but we’ll take a quick look at a few restaurants that you are going to want to check out for yourself. All 4 of these great Algarve restaurants offer something a little different.

1. Casa Grande, Burgau

On the west coast of the Algarve near the town of Burgau lies the Casa Grande restaurant. In addition to some great local Portuguese cuisine, this restaurant offers some great vegetation and scenery.

This is a very popular restaurant, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to book in advance during the high tourist season.

2. A Mascara, Portimao

Also along the western coast of Algarve near Portimao is the A Mascara. Of course, this restaurant also features the traditional Portuguese cuisine like most other Algarve restaurants, but it also is well known for it’s outstanding Thai cuisine.

3. Museo do Lagar, Loulé

This restaurant is located in Loulé in the central Algarve, and is a pretty good value for a larger sized dinner party. If you’ve got a big family, this would be a great place to go to eat without breaking the bank.

This restaurant also offers some exotic dishes like ostrich and buffalo!

4. Badial Punjabi Restaurant, Faro

This is one of the newer restaurants located on the east side of Faro offering traditional Indian food. This is a VERY small cafe, but it’s an extremely romantic choice for a quiet dinner with your significant other.

After eating at the Badial Punjabi, you can take a short walk down to the local waterfront markets.

There are TONS of Algarve restaurants to experience, so don’t worry about running out of places to eat. Remember, to get the best food at the best price, don’t be afraid to ask the locals where they eat!
