Should You Pack The Umbrella, Or The Sunscreen for your Algarve holiday?

Yes, the Algarve features some of the best beaches in Portugal. Yes, the Algarve has some of the best tourist attractions in Europe. However, the Algarve wouldn’t be Algarve if it wasn’t for the weather.

The Algarve climate is among the comfortable and stable in Europe. The proximity of the Algarve to North Africa creates very warm, generally dry summers, and mild winters with very little rain.

The Algarve borders the cool Atlantic rather than warm Mediterranean sea which makes the climate similar to Southern California with hot sun tempered by cool sea breezes.

The weather in the Algarve attracts massive numbers of tourist every year. Only about 410,000 resident’s actually live in this region, but the local population more than doubles during the peak tourist holidays.

The Algarve region boasts a staggering 3,000 hours of sun a year, making it one of the sunniest tourist destinations in Europe, and highly popular for sun seekers, golfers and watersport enthusiasts alike.

This region can enjoy up to 12 hours of sunshine every day during summer. Winds play a large part in keeping the temperatures down to an enjoyable level, though the breezes from the coast can occasionally be quite strong.

In the summer months the temperatures can pass 30C. However, the average summer high temperature from the months of July to August are usually around 27-28C. During the Autumn and Spring months, daytime high temperatures usually average around 17-19C. Coupled with the sunshine that the Algarve is known for, the Spring and Autumn months are among the most popular for sporting activities and touring.

Almost year round, the Algarve climate almost guarantees you a dry and sunny holiday and this is why this is one of the top tourist destinations in Europe.

I absolutely love the algarve sun :)

Love staying by the sea, can be chilly at night though with the sea breeze.

Just a recommendation – Salema – it’s great place to visit in the Algarve.
