As you would expect from a popular tourist destination bordering the coast of the beautiful Atlantic ocean, the Algarve beaches can be quite stunning.

Every year, over 400,000 tourists come to this region of southern Portugal to enjoy the beautiful crystal clear waters, clear blue skies and amazing golden beaches.

The Algarve is home to hundreds of beaches. In this article, we’re going to take a quick look at 6 of the best beaches Algarve has to offer. Specifically, we’re going to look at the Praia da Marinha (Benagil/Carvoeiro), the Dona Ana (Lagos), the Ilha de Tavira in Tavira, the The Meia Praia in Lagos, the Praia da Oura, and finally, the Praia dos Barcos in Albufeira.

This is one of the more secluded Algarve Beaches. While it’s just as stunning as most of the other Algarve Beaches, it’s a great beach to choose when you’re ready to get away from the hustle and excitement of daily Algarve life.

2. Dona Ana (Lagos)

This has been described as the “post-card beach” because of the stunning scenery this beach offers. The calm, warm, shallow water makes this a great beach to check out if you have kids.

3. Ilha de Tavira in Tavira

This is one of the most famous Algarve beaches. You’ll find this beach to be a bit more crowded than most of the other Algarve beaches, but it’s worth it because this beach features many watersports that you can be a part of if you so desire.

4. The Meia Praia in Lagos

This is one of the longest Algarve beaches. This beach is a central hub for many watersports in the Algarve, which makes is a very popular, and at times, crowded beach. This beach is also a popular sunbathing location.

5. Praia da Oura

The yellow sandstones that this beach offers makes this beach a popular destination for photographers and scenic-beauty-seekers. While this beach is not known for it’s watersports, you’ll find the occasional sail-boater skimming across the water.

6. Praia dos Barcos in Albufeira

While this is a beach that can be enjoyed with the family, this beach is also is a popular beach for fishing and boating enthusiasts. If you’re nearby, rent a pole and experience fishing in the deep blue waters of the Praia dos Barcos!
